Sjogren's Update

Originally posted on April 3, 2015

As you know I have been on the Paleo Approach Autoimmine Protocol elimination diet since mid November-ish, to try to get rid of Sjogren's Syndrome.  Well, last week (yeah, I know!) I got my follow up blood test results back from the rheumatologist, and TA DA!  No more ANA (antinuclear antibodies) in my blood.  None. Nada. Zip. Zilch.  Which means, Sjogren's is in remission  :)  She did say that there's something up with my kidney function, so I should go see my GP (general practitioner/family doctor).  So I did that on Friday last week, they took some more blood, and they got nothin'.  Could be just a blip?  Different labs?  Different tests?  I don't know, but I'll keep and eye on it, so to speak, and will let you know if anything develops.

The important part is of course MY SJOGREN'S IS IN REMISSION!  After only 4 months :)  So, I have started to reintroduce foods, and I had an egg yolk yesterday at breakfast, mixed into my paleo porridge.  So far, no reactions.  I am going by Sarah Ballantyne's recommendations for reintroduction, mainly because she wrote the book, and she's done all the research and she's all smart and stuff.  I may end up going a little all over the place though, because there are some things that I want to challenge before my weekend in New York City at the end of this month.  Like wine.  And chocolate.  And whole eggs.  And nuts.  Wine and chocolate mostly  ;)

My GP was gobsmacked that diet alone worked to get it into remission.  Not that there really is a medical treatment for Sjogren's, except perhaps immune suppressors (no thank you!), but doctors always seem rather surprised that nutrition has anything to do with good or ill health.  I may have told you this before, but I once had a neurologist say to me that it doesn't matter what or how much you eat, as long as you take a daily multi-vitamin!  I think my jaw broke when it fell open and my eyes bugged out of my head, cartoon like.  Seriously, I really do wish they'd teach nutrition in medical schools and not just pharmaceutical treatments.

I'll be finished my course work with IIN this month, our last test will be posted on April 20th.  I'm very excited, and a wee bit scared shitless to be out on my own as a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach.  Once I graduate, I won't be under Papa Joshua's wing anymore, I'll be a fledgling, out on my own.

It's been a crazy year.  I really jumped into this fairly quickly, though it took me a while, if you follow.  Ever since I moved back home from North Carolina in 2010, I was trying to find a nutrition course that suited me.  I spoke to more than one school, even went to an open house for another large Canadian school, but none of them "fit".  And then right about this time last year, I got a newsletter from somebody among the paleo blogosphere whose friend had just graduated from the best, largest, most awesome nutrition school in the world, The Institute for Integrative Nutrition.  And they had a sign up bonus going on that got me a discount on my tuition, so badda bing, badda boom, I signed up!  If you're interested in studying with IIN, have a look at the curriculum guide, or sample a class.  These links are customized, so they'll know I sent you.  Mention the "Ambassador Savings Offer" for special savings if you do end up signing up.  This education won't just take you to being a health coach, it's so much more than that!  Whether for personal interest, or a piece of your plan for world dominance, it's a great experience!  AND, there's opportunity for a weekend in New York City for the conference!  Woo Hoo!

I wouldn't trade this education or experience for anything in the world.  It's changed my life, and now I will be changing, am already changing, other lives!  I've already started to see clients, since January of this year, I have 3!  Yep, count 'em, 3!  Plus I've hosted 2 workshops, and have another scheduled for May, (check my Events tab) and I'm working on lots more.  Including in your own home personalised workshops to help you reach your health goals.  Exciting times!

If you'd like to book an appointment for a free health consultation, or a personalised workshop, fill in the Contact Me form on my website.  I've struggled with getting confusing health information myself, and I've done the research, I've spent the past year studying and learning and becoming certified.  Now let me pass that on to you, so you don't have to suffer anymore, or spend the next 7 or 8 years trying to figure it out on your own.  I would love to support you, and help you find your healthiest you :)
