The heartbreak of autoimmune disease

Some are parents, or grandparents, unable to go out and play with their kids or grandkids. All but one respondent commented how their perfect day would include just a simple pain free walk with their family. That’s all. We don’t want much. Just to be pain free, and to be able to spend some time with our families. Read More

Living with psoriasis

One day in particular sticks out in my head, I think I was in grade 8 at the time (so, 13 years old?), I was playing in a baseball tournament, my Catholic school against one of the public schools. At the time I was Catholic, I’ve since recovered ;) I was standing near the batter’s cage, I’d be up next. I was sweating, and the psoriasis on my head and down my back were itching like crazy! I had my hair up in a ponytail because it was so hot out, and someone said “eeeewwww what’s that rash all over you?!” Kids can be cruel! Read More

Life altering consequences of undiagnosed celiac disease

I suffered for 40 years or so with celiac symptoms before I was diagnosed. Celiac wreaked havoc through my entire body, made me infertile and made me an emotional wreck unable to cope with life. Read More

Why Your Doctor Can't Tell You How Diet Affects Your Autoimmune Disease

So, you’ve been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and your doctor says you’re doomed to live with it, suck it up buttercup. What do you do? Re-organize your life

We’re 3 weeks in to 2017, and it’s looking fine so far! I’m feeling great, I’ve given up the 12 hour days and 7 days a week thing, even though I’ve still got stacks and stacks of work to do. I just can’t keep up that pace for another month, I need a break! Just the regular ol’ days a week 8 to 4 for me. Give or take 30 minutes here or there. Read More

Freakishly Strong

A co-worker said that to me today. She said that I am freakishly strong. I’ll take that as a compliment, thank you very much! :) Yesterday another (female) co-worker asked why we had let go the temp, who just happened to be male, she said “but he could have helped you pack and carry boxes, he’s a man!” I actually went “pffffffffffft! I don’t need no man to carry boxes!” I was insulted, not because I obviously have muscle, but I was insulted for every single feminist on the planet! Ladies, don’t fall into that trap that you can’t be strong enough to lift and carry heavy things. That’s bullshit. Read More

Habits

A habit is something that you do without even thinking about it. You create habits by continuing to do something repeatedly. Whether it is a “bad” habit, or a “good” habit doesn’t matter. Just keep doing whatever it is you want to be doing, and soon you’ll be doing it without even having to think about it. Read More

This. Is. Even. HUGER!

OMG! I want to dance for joy! Isn't this amazing? The presentation goes into detail of how we got to where we are, the faulty science, why it was generally accepted, and why the recommendations are WRONG. Read More

Gooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaalll!

Dictionary.com defines resolution: a decision or determination. Are you determined to achieve a particular goal for 2017? How do you plan to achieve it? Will you at midnight on New Years’ Eve say “I make a resolution to…” and how do you plan to go about it? We fail to meet our goals, or to stick to our resolutions because we don’t have a plan on how we will achieve it. It’s all well and good to resolve to lose weight, but how do you plan to do that? How much weight? By what date? Read More

Happy Holidays!

The holidays can be a trying time for those of us with celiac disease, or food allergies and intolerances. Avoiding gluten this time of year is tricky, to say the least! I have spent the last week and a half or so watching everybody at work munching on some of my old favourites of the season; gingerbread, shortbread, pannetone, sugar cookies, squares of all sorts, and cakes of all kinds. It’s been non-stop junk food in the office, and not a single bite of it can I eat. Yes, it’s tricky. But I know if I indulge in any of it, I’ll be sick for weeks. In pain, constipated, bloated, foggy brained, migraines, and etc… So what do I do? How do I avoid all the crap that I can’t eat? Well it’s simple really. I just don’t eat it. It’s not willpower. It’s life. Read More
