Why Your Doctor Can't Tell You How Diet Affects Your Autoimmune Disease

So, you’ve been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and your doctor says you’re doomed to live with it, suck it up buttercup. What do you do? You click the “Contact” link up there in the right hand corner of the screen, you set up an appointment with me for a no charge one hour health consultation, and we will talk about what you need to get you through this maze of conflicting information, and how my programme can support you with that. Happy Holidays!

The holidays can be a trying time for those of us with celiac disease, or food allergies and intolerances. Avoiding gluten this time of year is tricky, to say the least! I have spent the last week and a half or so watching everybody at work munching on some of my old favourites of the season; gingerbread, shortbread, pannetone, sugar cookies, squares of all sorts, and cakes of all kinds. It’s been non-stop junk food in the office, and not a single bite of it can I eat. Yes, it’s tricky. But I know if I indulge in any of it, I’ll be sick for weeks. In pain, constipated, bloated, foggy brained, migraines, and etc… So what do I do? How do I avoid all the crap that I can’t eat? Well it’s simple really. I just don’t eat it. It’s not willpower. It’s life. Read More

I Got Glutened!

I was "glutened" yesterday. I had some paleo porridge for breakfast with some coconut flour bought at the Bulk Barn, and pretty much immediately afterward felt the pain starting. I still had to go to work though. The pain got progressively worse through the day, and I still had to go grocery shopping! I stopped at the health food store and got some magnesium citrate powder to help with the pain and constipation that always comes with a glutening. Read More

Yep, I'm Crazy!

Recently I went and got some x-rays of my spine, top to bottom. I've had difficulties with back pain pretty much since my early 20s, after my first emergency surgery that opened up my lower abdomen, zipper style, belly button on down. 2 more similar surgeries, and 20 plus years of sitting working hunched over a computer keyboard, and no one to tell me how to avoid this problem, and now my spine is not in such good health. I Just Noticed Something!

I was sitting here at my desk listening in on a webinar, and I got an itch on my head. So I reached up to scratch it. And there were no lumps, or crusty flakes, or scales or anything! I even got up to check my entire head in the mirror! For the first time in my entire life (no kidding!) I Have No Psoriasis Anywhere On My Body! None! Can you even imagine that? I have had psoriasis since I was BORN! I am 47 years old, and I now have NO Psoriasis scales anywhere! Read More

Everything But the Kitchen Sink

My workshop was called "Feed Your Spirituality" (brochure download coming soon!) and it's about how eating natural whole foods can get you closer to the gods and kindred. I think it was well received, and the food I prepared was well enjoyed! Beef stew, veggies and guac dip, and some kale chips. mmmmm....I love kale chips! I went to see the Paddington movie with my Mum and my Paddington Bear (yes, 47 and I still take my toys to the movies with me) and a big bag of kale chips. I ate the whole bag myself. :) Read More

Close Encounters of the Paleo Kind

Yesterday I went to beautiful downtown Toronto to meet Sarah Ballantyne, author of The Paleo Approach, The Paleo Approach Cookbook, and the Paleo Approach Dinner Club; with Stacy Toth co-author of Eat Like a Dinosaur, Beyond Bacon, Real Life Paleo, Paleo To Go, and 3 Phase Paleo (all books are available through their websites, linked). Confessions of an Autoimmune Collector

About 3 or 4 years or so ago, I was having a heckuva time with extreme exhaustion, chronic vertigo, scatter brain (one step up [down?] from the usual autoimmune brain fog), systemic inflammation and pain, and just general overall bad health that the doctors could find no reason for at all. I lost my job because of it. Of course given that I already had 3 diagnosed autoimmune diseases I kept telling them it was probably another one. Or maybe even two or more! They ran tests, and they kept telling me results were "inconclusive". One rheumatologist said to "come back when you have more or worse symptoms" and a neurologist told me I probably need a psychiatrist, because he couldn't find anything wrong with me. Read More
