Why Your Doctor Can't Tell You How Diet Affects Your Autoimmune Disease

So, you’ve been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and your doctor says you’re doomed to live with it, suck it up buttercup. What do you do? You click the “Contact” link up there in the right hand corner of the screen, you set up an appointment with me for a no charge one hour health consultation, and we will talk about what you need to get you through this maze of conflicting information, and how my programme can support you with that. What are Your Goals?

Part of my job as a Health Coach is to keep my clients accountable to themselves so they can achieve their goals. I make my clients actually sign a commitment to theirself along with their contract with me. Whether their goal is to lose 20 pounds to fit into a fancy dress or suit for someone's wedding, or to get more active, or learn how to be more healthy overall. I can help them learn how they can reach those goals, and how to sustain them long term. Read More

Sorry it's Been so Long

So, after I was told that the Sjogren's is in remission, of course like any sane person would (hey, no comment from the Peanut Gallery!) I started to reintroduce foods. I started with egg yolk, no reaction for 4 days, so tried a full egg. No reaction for 4 days, so had some nice dark Giddy YoYo chocolate. No reaction for one full day, and then I had a lunch emergency. There was no protein in the house somehow that I could take to lunch, so I made my Big Ass Salad, and figured I could go to the Shopper's there near the office and get something to put in it. Well, for whatever reason their cans of tuna are 3 times the price that I usually pay at the grocery store, so I checked the Clearance shelf, and lo and behold, they had one tin of Flakes of Turkey for 50 cents. Bad idea. Within a couple of hours my mouth was feeling the now familiar pain and fire of salivary glands under attack. Read More

Yep, I'm Crazy!

Recently I went and got some x-rays of my spine, top to bottom. I've had difficulties with back pain pretty much since my early 20s, after my first emergency surgery that opened up my lower abdomen, zipper style, belly button on down. 2 more similar surgeries, and 20 plus years of sitting working hunched over a computer keyboard, and no one to tell me how to avoid this problem, and now my spine is not in such good health. Everything But the Kitchen Sink

My workshop was called "Feed Your Spirituality" (brochure download coming soon!) and it's about how eating natural whole foods can get you closer to the gods and kindred. I think it was well received, and the food I prepared was well enjoyed! Beef stew, veggies and guac dip, and some kale chips. mmmmm....I love kale chips! I went to see the Paddington movie with my Mum and my Paddington Bear (yes, 47 and I still take my toys to the movies with me) and a big bag of kale chips. I ate the whole bag myself. :) Read More

Close Encounters of the Paleo Kind

Yesterday I went to beautiful downtown Toronto to meet Sarah Ballantyne, author of The Paleo Approach, The Paleo Approach Cookbook, and the Paleo Approach Dinner Club; with Stacy Toth co-author of Eat Like a Dinosaur, Beyond Bacon, Real Life Paleo, Paleo To Go, and 3 Phase Paleo (all books are available through their websites, linked). Confessions of an Autoimmune Collector

About 3 or 4 years or so ago, I was having a heckuva time with extreme exhaustion, chronic vertigo, scatter brain (one step up [down?] from the usual autoimmune brain fog), systemic inflammation and pain, and just general overall bad health that the doctors could find no reason for at all. I lost my job because of it. Of course given that I already had 3 diagnosed autoimmune diseases I kept telling them it was probably another one. Or maybe even two or more! They ran tests, and they kept telling me results were "inconclusive". One rheumatologist said to "come back when you have more or worse symptoms" and a neurologist told me I probably need a psychiatrist, because he couldn't find anything wrong with me. Read More
