How many balls can I juggle?

Amongst all of this flurry of activity, I still have a full-time day job, plus need to take time out for “me”, otherwise I get stressed out and get a flare up of something, which will then set me back, unable to do much of anything. Just as anyone with autoimmune disease can attest, stress and overwork really doesn’t do us any good at all. For each of us, our first priority should be self care, yes, even if you have kids! Otherwise we’re no good to anyone. Read More

Ta Da!

Whether you have an autoimmune disease, or other chronic disease like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, type 2 diabetes, the paleo Autoimmune protocol lifestyle can most certainly help! Remember, the elimination phase is temporary! It's not forever! So it's really not as scary as it may sound. Read More

So, what’s new and good?

I have been so busy the past few weeks, some of it work, some of it pleasure. I’ve finished up the AIP certification course, I just need to write the exam. It’s potentially 2 hours long, so I want to make sure I can sit and do it with no interruption or distraction. Read More

Books and things

My latest newsletter included an exclusive sneak peek at a new cookie recipe I created. It is AIP and vegan, and is ready for fall and the start of holiday season! OMG, did I just say that? EEK! If you’re not on my newsletter subscription list, then you missed out on the recipe, but it’ll be posted on my website in a few weeks, after subscribers have it all to themselves for a while. If you’d like the recipe, you can subscribe now, and I’ll send it out to you. Read More

I had initially intended to only do a short hike in, about 2 or 2 ½ hours, because of the heat. The temperature forecast for Saturday was to be quite a bit cooler and less humid, so I figured I’d do the long end of the loop on Saturday morning, rather than on my way in Friday afternoon (after an almost 5 hour drive up there, that should have taken only 3 hours, because of highway closures for an accident overnight!). I started on my way at 1:30 in the afternoon, and figured I’d be at my campsite (number 530) by 4:00 at the latest. Easy peasy, set up the tent, make some dinner, sit and relax and enjoy the view before bedtime. WELL! Not so much. I missed a left turn, and took the right fork in the trail instead, and ended up on the longer end of the loop, so I was out there for quite a lot longer than I had planned. Read More

AIP and the Canada Food Guide

I’ve been reading a lot lately about the re-jig of the Canada Food Guide that is coming up for next year. From what I’ve read, I still think it sucks! At first glance, it seems like it would be ok, that is, until you start to learn more about nutrition, and the science of what food actually does to your body when you eat it. Then we run into some problems with their suggestions! Read More

Surviving Hours on Your Feet

I know a lot of people think that paleo and AIP are too restrictive. That there’s nothing to eat. That they’ll starve. That they don’t know what to eat. But there is LOTS to eat! So much to eat! I wasn’t the least bit hungry at all, not even when I got home at 2am. But really, everything that I took with me, except possibly the dulse, are fairly standard fare snack foods. Read More

Happy Canada Day!

Ok, well, I’m a couple of days early, but tomorrow morning at Oh My God It’s Early, I’m hopping on a train to Ottawa (yep, again!) to celebrate Canada’s 150th with 500,000 or so other people! This is going to be BIG! And kinda scary! But this is my year of adventure, so I’m excited! Read More

Flavour Cravings

Yesterday, I don’t know where it came from, but suddenly I had a whiff of gingersnap cookies up my nose, and I was immediately returned to my childhood, dunking gingersnaps in my tea. Or “Dad’s” oatmeal chocolate chip, or regular chocolate chip. All of them, and a cup of tea, was the perfect afternoon snack. I don’t know where the smell came from, I was nowhere near the cookie plant, (we used to live close to it when I was a kid…still driving by in the summer time when you can smell all the cookies makes me want to eat them all!). But ever since, I’ve been craving gingersnap cookies Read More

Traveling

I like to travel as light as I possibly can, and didn’t now if there would be a fridge in the room, so didn’t want to bring anything that would spoil. Normally I stay away from packaged foods, but in this case, and for camping or backpacking, I do make an exception. Notice I said “packaged”, NOT “manufactured”! The foods I brought with me were all “real foods”, they just happened to come neatly packaged for convenience. Read More
