Healthy Community

My workshop was based on 3 premises. The first being the Ontario Healthy Community Coalition, which is a part of an International Healthy Community coalition. They have some great resources on how to build a healthy community. Now I'm not just talking about people being "healthy" within their community. I'm talking about healthy unity. Leaders working together and bringing together diverse groups to work together for a healthy community. Healthy communication, and cohesive blending of individuals to make a whole. Whether you're a "solitary" practitioner, or a member of a larger group (Grove, Coven, Shire...), my goal is to bring people together to present to the wide world a functioning community. As my friend Rev. Terrie Brookins said at the closing rite, we are the fringe, but we are all Pagan. We may have our differences in practice, but we have that in common. Read More

Such a Whirlwind!

By Thursday panic was setting in...holy crap I don't have a job! What will I do for money? How will I pay my rent, how will I eat, will I qualify for EI, and yadda yadda yadda....but I went to the mall to get some US cash at the currency exchange, and found some fabulous new IIN red clothes for my weekend in New York City, and I felt better. Nothing like a good session of retail therapy eh? And then of course the panic creeps back in...should I have just spent all that money, bought those new clothes and 2 new pairs of shoes? Should I really go on this trip to New York...blah blah blah... Read More

Sorry it's Been so Long

So, after I was told that the Sjogren's is in remission, of course like any sane person would (hey, no comment from the Peanut Gallery!) I started to reintroduce foods. I started with egg yolk, no reaction for 4 days, so tried a full egg. No reaction for 4 days, so had some nice dark Giddy YoYo chocolate. No reaction for one full day, and then I had a lunch emergency. There was no protein in the house somehow that I could take to lunch, so I made my Big Ass Salad, and figured I could go to the Shopper's there near the office and get something to put in it. Well, for whatever reason their cans of tuna are 3 times the price that I usually pay at the grocery store, so I checked the Clearance shelf, and lo and behold, they had one tin of Flakes of Turkey for 50 cents. Bad idea. Within a couple of hours my mouth was feeling the now familiar pain and fire of salivary glands under attack. Read More

Bio-Individuality

One of the key points that I've learned at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition is the concept of "bio-individuality; no one diet works for everyone". And I completely agree with this. Another key point that we have learned, in all of the 100 (!) dietary theories is that no matter if your bio-individulality means you're a raw vegan, or a Paleo meat eater, or something in between, you have to eat *real* food, for real health. What do You Want to do With Your Life?

Me, I had no real clue until I was 46 years old, and I received a link to IIN in my email box one day. I'd been looking for a nutrition programme for quite a while, and never found one that "fit". I'd even gone so far as to go to an open house for another nutrition school, spent the day there, but it kind of felt weird. The teachers didn't click with me, their philosophy was completely different than my own, and I just didn't know if I could spend all that money on tuition, and put up a shingle and be associated with that particular programme for the rest of my life. Then came that email. Read More
